Subaru Forester |
|
|
| For space and capability, the Forester is a winner. Consumer Reports named last year's Forester as its Top Pick for small SUVs, and with few changes to the 2011 model, it should continue to earn such honors. Like all Subarus, it features full-time all-wheel drive, and for 2011 the Forester earned 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway fuel economy ratings from the EPA. |
| The 2011 Subaru Forester comes in five trim levels. The 2.5X models get a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer that makes 170 hp. The XT model utilizes a turbocharged, intercooled version that makes 224 hp. The base and Premium models have a standard 5-speed transmission, while the Limited and Touring models come with a 4-speed electronic transmission.
A slew of standard safety features come with every Forester, such as vehicle dynamics control, traction control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, tire pressure monitoring and airbags all around. The Touring model also has a standard back-up camera, which is available for the Premium and Limited models as well.
A 10-way power adjustable seat is standard on all but the base model, as are reclining rear seats, an auto up/down power window for the driver, and audio controls on the steering wheel. All models have air conditioning, 60/40 folding rear seats, under-floor storage in the cargo area, and stereo system with CD/MP3/WMA playback and an audio jack. The Premium trim upgrades the stereo to include iPod controls and a USB port, while the Limited adds two speakers for a total of six and the Touring has a 7-speaker system, both with Bluetooth and an integrated back-up camera.
The All-Weather Package, which includes a windshield wiper de-icer, heated side mirrors and heated front seats is standard on the Limited and Touring and available for the Premium model. A navigation system with 7-inch screen is available for the Limited and Touring models too, as it works with the more advanced sound systems. |
| Subaru has updated the Forster's engine for 2011, bumping up the torque and improving gas mileage. A new model, the Touring, has been added to the lineup, which has a few extra features above the Limited, including a back-up camera and dual-zone climate controls. There are still two models with turbocharged engines, but the new Touring trim will replace the Limited. |
